I am in the process of purchasing a new Grady. The Freedom 225. On the test run I noticed that the boats swim platform seems to drag in the water at certain rpm's. It isn't a problem at 1400 rpm's but as you hit 1800 it feels like there is a sea anchor on it and it puts the bow high in the air. To get it out of this hole you need to push it to 3800 rpm's and then once planing you can feather it back to 3500 for the optimum cruise speed.

My issue is with the in between speeds. Where as 1400 is close to trolling speed it is too slow for a cruise back in to the harbor. 3500 is sometimes too hurried for a leisurely return. Does anybody have this model and maybe understand what I don't? We are now looking into the Freedom 255 as an option but didn't really want to spend the money unless it was a no brainer.

Thoughts?

Our 228 walkaround is the same hull. It sounds like you probably had the engine trimmed out (up) when trying to get up on plane. You need to trim the engine in (down) and you solve that problem. The swim platform has nothing to do with what you were experiencing. The 225 is an excellent boat.
