2017 Yamaha F250XB Lower Motor Mount Bolt Badly Rusted

My 2017 Yamaha F250XB on my 2018 215 Freedom has an extremely rusted lower motor mount bolt on the port side. This is the side with the ground wire attached to this bolt. The factory installed this bolt in a direction to where you cannot easily remove this 227mm long bolt. My plan is to cut the head off of the old bolt, and then install the new replacement bolt from the opposite direction, so I can replace it without doing major disassembly to get it replaced. If you have a Yamaha, you may want to pop off your port side cover, and inspect this lower motor mount bolt. The head of the bolt on mine, was severely corroded. See the pictures.

I think I would leave it alone. Wire brush it maybe and paint with some metal primer.
 
I agree. That's just surface rust - that isn't bad, at all. Cover it with a protectant like Boeshield (or similar)... or even just grease. Reapply as needed.

On the other hand, do you still have warranty on it? Run it by your dealer.
 
is there a pic of the other side avail? you have a tie connected as well, so i'd get it checked by a dealer and documented.
 
My favorite issue. Broken off bolt heads. Do yourself a favor. Soak that head with on pb blaster for a week. Same with the nut. You really want to get as much grip as you can on the bolt head and apply the least amount of force to get it free. Once the head snaps off, its a different game. So, soak it well, clean up the head with a file , get the best socket on it, remove the nut and then try to get the bolt loose. It can be a nightmare.
FYI, I spent have spent weeks getting bolts out of outboards. At least the bolts on the sleeve/ mount look clean and you could just replace that. If the bolt is in the power head, it can be a deal killer.
