I want to install a through hull transducer in the bilge area, has any one done this , im trying to remember if there is room , would any body have any pictures

I mounted one in the water tank compartment of my 226. There is plenty of room to the stern of the tank.

My 225 has a through hull....I've never used it. I'll take some pics.

It's not difficult at all. Don't try to do it through the access port. Remove the deck panel so that you have lots of elbow room. Drill the pilot hole from the inside so that you can be sure that you're not going to hit the water tank and use tape on the outside of the hull when using the hole saw so that the gel coat doesn't crack. Get all of the old caulk out around the deck panel and re-caulk with 3M silicone sealer. You can look up the color match on this site or ask Grady.

I used 4200 to bed the transducer. Life Seal or Life Caulk will also work. We even used silicon back in the day. The washers and nuts ensure a tight seal, so you won't have to worry about leaks. Mine has been in for 8 years.

I have a Lumar shoot through the hull transducer mounted in my 228. It is in the same compartment as the water tank. The dealer bedded it with 5200. Mineral oil works well with them but it is not compatible with 5200 as it is a solvent to urethane. Mine is filled with RV antifreeze. Holds the bottom to about 1,200 feet.

If you have the auxiliary fuel tank, I don't think you'll have room. When I had my panels off, I don't remember much, if any, room between the two fuel tanks and water tank. Might have to pull the baitwell and put it in the bilge.

Here's a pic of the tanks. You can see the white water tank between the fuel tanks. Sorry I don't have one looking straight down.

its looking like there isn't much room there , Doc do you have aux tank in your Grady ??. I may have to find a spot in the bilge area

No. I have the newer design with a single fuel tank and the freshwater tank in the rear compartment.

It's going to be tough to find room in the bilge. A transom mount works well on that hull as long as you use an extension like a Sternmate.

My transom mounted Humminbird transducer actually tracks bottom better on plane than my through hull Airmar B60.

I have a 89 228 it has a 93 and 50gal fuel tanks. I put mine on the starboard side of the bilge while I was at it I put a raw water pickup on the port side. The only hassle was hanging upside down to hookup

has any one tried a through hull our have pic of the install in the bilge (2006 228), I believe the hull is at 20 degrees in that area
