I'm trying to determine where to mount the windlass. Where are they mounted at the factory, on the Explorer, Overnighter, Chase, Sailfish, etc - on the pulpit, or aft of the pulpit on anchor locker door. For simplicity sake, it seems easier to mount on the pulpit, but I don't like the idea of loosing the lifting eye? I see alot of them mounted on the pulpit, but aft seems more ideal; with more work involved. If there are no issues mounting on the pulpit I will probably go that route. Where are yours mounted??
Thanks,

Mine is mounted on the pulpit, the lifting eye rod has to be removed. I had the same question and GW said take it out. Otherwise rode doesn't feed properly and will jam up. I tried it with rod in doesn't work.

OK, thanks, if mounted in the location of the lifting eye, are you able to install a structural cleat forward of the windlass. I would like to be able to tie off and feel confident that I can drive out any hung anchor with unreasonable stress on the boat.
thanks,
