I have a 268 Islander 1995 model year, it has what appears to be a multfunction transducer. I just bought new Raymarine C series gear, and I was wondering if I can use the existing transducer, or do I need to buy a new one?

I think you would need to identify the current x-ducer model and then contact RM to see if it would work. There are adapter cables for some x-ducers also. Check the pin configuration on the ducer cable and someone may be able to tell you compatibility.

transducer model numer

does anyone know where the model number and make of the transducer is located?

There should be a label on the transducer cable within a foot or so of the connector. If you've got a Raymarine E66020 part number, it's an Airmar B744V tri-ducer. Raymarine has been using a 7-pin configuration for quite some time, and if it matches up with your new unit, you're good to go.

I'd do a bit more research than just seeing if its a 7 pin. I talked with Raymarine and Airmar product support on this, as I had a 10 pin airmar thru-hull ducer for a furuno sounder....and am upgrading to Ray Cwide.

Straight from Airmar: a 7 pin ducer made for Garmin or another brand will not work with Raymarine 7 pin setup. I'm not a techno guy but there is some extra lead in the raymarine setup...a "recognition" lead or something....

A local guy said he could pigtail and splice them himself....but was going to charge similar to what a new ducer would cost, so I bought a new ducer.

Anyhow - my .02 says call airmar and find out if it will work....

no labels

my ducer is a through hull "surfboard type", the casing underneath is brass, but there are no labels at all anywhere on the ducer or the cables leading to it.

The wiring is going to be a real mess trying to trace back, and neatly install everything. The plus is that there is already a factort installed port for the through hull transducer, so if I have to install a new one, it will easily fit in the factory spot.[/img]

Re: Looks like the B744V or VL

Is it safe to assume they used this model??????????? on the 1995 268 islander?

No, but that's not the point.

Your boat has nothing to do with the transducer's connector. It's all about what brand of FF the transducer was plugged into. If your transducer looks like the picture you posted, and it has a paddlewheel, then it's a B744V or VL. You must determine what kind of connector you've got. You can get B744V's for just about any brand of FF and the connectors are different. If you're lucky, you have a Raymarine connector. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I am beginning to understand where this is going. The transducer cable was plugged in to a Lowrance LMS350A. So i guess the question is do they make an adapter cable.

Thanks for the input

Here is the new setup. PS i installed a new B744V ducer also
