Hi there,
Working with 1997 Grady White Adventure 208, and 1996 Yamaha 200hp 2 stroke outboard.
Swapped out 6Y5 Speedometer and a 6Y5 Tachometer. Bought them on amazon and they look like the old ones but are definitely a newer model (they matched up with a 2012 wiring manual) but the wiring didn't exactly match what I had but close.
Wired up the gauges matching previous gauge configuration (I think). Found a manual online to get the DIN switches into the right positions. Tach and trim working great. Speedometer also working. Gas Gauge just flashes on low. I've set to the US mode using the DIN switches and tried the other modes to see if anything helped to no avail.
So I believe I have a wiring issue.
I have a pink wire coming into the dash that the previous Speedometer/Gas gauge had hooked to the white cable. I am hooking that pink one to the white on this new gauge to match. All wiring diagrams I can find say gas will be black and white. However, tracking down and looking at the gas sensor in the hull (only place I could find wiring on the tank) the output wiring looks like pink and green. The pink comes into the dash accompanied with a blue (for nav lighting which lights up the gauges) as well as a black. The green does not as it seems to continue from back of the boat onward toward the front. The black that comes into the dash with the pink I've spliced to the other blacks in the dash (I assume all negative and can be spliced together).
I have to think the pink is the gas gauge as I can't think of another reason it's run into the dash panel. It's weird to me that the green doesn't somehow come back to the dash as well. I also don't know if the gas gauge works in a manner where the green ties into black negative system somewhere.
Any help would be much appreciated! Anyone else have a pink wire in their dashboard hooked to a white?
Thanks,
Brice
