82' 223 trim tabs

My boat came with Bennett v-351 trim tabs which I believe are original. Is the motor supposed to run when switch is in the neutral position? The pump works when the switch is moved to up or down position but the tabs move very slowly. When the switch is released to neutral the motor continues to run. Does this sound right?

Mine move slowly too. If they auto retract then yes the motor will run till they are in a full up position. Not sure if that helps at all.

GG is right about the auto-retract, although in '82, that feature wasn't available.
