On a 1997 tournament 192 i need to get the seals for the pry-out round access plates in the floor. The seal is around the plate itself and it is not a conventional o-ring.

I replaced the whole plate. They're about $11.00 each. Can't remember where I bought them though. Seems like I saw a thread here on great grady.

GWT192, I am looking to replace all of mine on a 1994 192 Tournament. There must be a source out there for these seals. Doesn't make much sense to have to swap out the entire outer ring and plate. Anyone??

Is there a brand name on the plate somewhere? Backside, maybe? "Beckson" is one brand, but there are others. Check for the brand, then go to their website to find a part number (or call them - probably would be the quickest way) and then order from your favorite place.

EDIT: Oh, I've never replaced just the seal myself - out of curiosity, what makes it different than a typical o-ring? The seals I've ever looked at appear to be an o-ring?

I'll see if I can find a manufacturer/ model number on my new covers. I couldn't find an 'O' ring the right diameter that wasn't too fat. Also, the radii of the different manufacturers varies +/- 1/4"

:uhm Call Grady CS and inquire of the vender for access plates in '97, then proceed accordingly ...

If you are talking about the flat seal that goes around the flange, just use silicone. For the ORing, you can get any size made up at a local hardware store. They size the diameter, and cut to length, then super glue it together. Will not pull apart.

I replaced mine with same exact as original as mine were quite worn. Tempress is the brand and were an exact match, style, size, screw holes and pattern. Only improvement was that they now enhanced the round plate with some substructure to give it a more rigid support when stepping on it.

They also have the orings made of nitrile:

I called Grady and Beckson is the original manufacturer of the plates. Beckson has the seals for the lids for about 5 bucks!

sweet! I will be ordering some online. I think I need 3 of them, 5 if the ones above the bilge at the stern are the same size and make. Thank you for chasing the manufacturer down. Makes replacing super easy. :D

You may want to verify what brand is used in your boat. Just because the two of you have the same model boat, doesn't mean you have the same brand of plates. Manufacturer's that builders use for parts like this can sometimes change even within a specific model year. They may indeed be the same (or still work) - but they not, also.

I hear you, Dennis. Our boats are 3 years apart, so I suspect it will be the same supplier. But point taken! I will email Grady before I order 3 of these things and risk throwing away 20 bucks, plus shipping.

I wonder when they changed to Beckson or if they maybe used different companies. My originals were identical to the replacements from Tempress other than the popout plate was better re-inforced than the original. I looked at the Becksons and they were slightly different and dimensions were as well. I had found some specs on each brand that showed the differences and I took the chance on the Tempress due to their specs and they were right on.
Maybe check your measurements and compare to Beckson's specs.

There's a couple reasons why they might change. One would be if they found a reoccurring problem. A second would be cost - if another company offers a comparable product at a cost savings, it'd be worthwhile to switch. Another could be color - if Grady decides to change the cockpit floor color and the existing company doesn't offer that new color... or won't do a special run for Grady.
