Does your rub rail have any type of cover where the two ends meet?

My 228's rub rail in the cold seems to have shrunk, and there is about an inch gap between the two inner rubber pieces. I'm thinking a polished stainless cover would look nice and to make the rub rail ends look "finished".

Any thoughts?

Over time, the vinyl inserts do tend to shrink. But if it shrank only because of the cold, then it might expand right back when the temps warm up. If not, check the dimensions, but here is an example of an end cap: http://tacomarine.com/item--Stainless-E ... 3x-rp.html

That cap is exactly what I am looking for--if it wasn't an end cap.If it had the end piece cut out and then shaped appropriately that would work.

I seem to remember seeing a gap there last summer...but really noticed it a few weeks ago when I went down to the boat and it was cold out.

I thought that piece WAS open on both ends?

To be honest, I'm surprised you don't already have a cap covering the two rubrail ends... unless it has gone MIA over the years?

Another option... although it's not the fanciest or most durable of options... get a piece of Sch 80 PVC (more robust than the sch40 stuff) and split it down the middle, sand/shape the edges nicely. Use that as the cap. Using paint for plastic, you can paint it whatever color you want.
