Unfortunately the twin 2011 F300 on my recently bought Canyon 306 start to act up and i am not sure if it's just coincidence that problems started just after the Garmin 36.00 update. I understand that the J1939 bus seems to not transmit data, only receive and that should exclude problems from the Garmin's, but i may be wrong
However i am investigating this problems and disconnect my Garmin's from the Yamaha Command Bus and Gauge.

As i can get a much better deal on DF300 than on F300 and as i had 3 DF300 and they run flawless and i know them in and out i am thinking to fix the F300 if necessary, sell them for a quick deal and repower with twin DF300.

Anyone with DF300 on a 30ft hull similar to the 306 Bimini/Freedom?

Thanks

Chris

A buddy of mine has a Canyon 271 with Yamaha 300s. Been very reliable. But he's adding a 37 foot invincible to his stable and has been learning about Mercury engines. He's impressed with them, likes them better than the Yamahas (which he likes, don't get me wrong).

If I were repowering I'd like very hard at Mercury.

Thanks LuckyDude

I will never consider e Mercury on any kind of boat, but thats personal taste and local conditions, particularly dealership and technicians nearby. However Mercurys will probably do well on a Invincible and sound better hauling ass on Haulover inlet.

I had a lot of Suzukis and never had issues with them and also, the heavy hull of the GW's will benefit from the different gear reduction leading to more torque on lower rpm's so i guess my Canyon would benefit from that, particularly for fuel economy.
I do now only 5300 rpm with twin Yamaha SaltWater II 15.5x17" and i am almost sure the DF300 will swing 16x18.5" and reach 6000 rpm or 16x21" and reach same 5300.

I have twin DF 300AP on a 95 Marlin (same hull but w shorter running surface) w 16x17 3 blade Suzuki props. It'll turn right at 6100 rpm at wot fully loaded.

Thanks Poolmaker,
thats interesting as from my numbers i guessed that the 16x17 would turn above 6100, but the Marlin with it's cabin is probably a bit more heavy.
So using the 16x18.5 would give me about 5800 - 6000 WOT not fully loaded, what would be my case as i rarely have more than 2/3 persons with me. Just fishing gear, life raft and full tanks.
