I own a 05' 208 Adventure and occasionally fish 20-25 NM from the beach. No Sea Tow or other commercial service nearby, and I'm thinking of adding an auxilliary outboard. I've got a Yamaha 200 four stroke for power which adds another 100 lbs to the transom over other types of engines.

I'm wondering how the additional weight of a kicker might effect safety/performance, and how how fast will a 8 or 9 hp aux. will push the boat. Also, I just added a set of trim tabs , and I'm wondering if an auxilliary will clear them.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

9.9 is fine

I'm not sure how the extra weight will affect the safety/performance, but a 9.9 with a push prop is plenty of propulsion for the boat. I have the Voyager 248, and my 9.9 Yamaha moves my boat just fine.

I don't know about the extra weight either, perhaps the Grady customer service people might have some insight. I have a 94 208 and the Yamaha T8 clears the trim tab with no problem and pushes the the boat at 5-6 mph.
