This is my first boat nice enough to consider waxing (used 2001 226). Does everyone just wax the outside hull? or do you wax all the top (inside the boat) surfaces? I assume it is the surfaces without the tread texture (just smooth surfaces)? Just looking for some basic help. Thanks.

Hey..
Can't speak for the masses, but I wax any part of the boat exposed to elements.
The non-skid deck surfaces do not get waxed.

My formula is wax once a month during boating season. During the off-season and between trips she is stored indoors.
I wax in the fall before winter lay-up.
We go to the Keys for part of the winter and before we leave the whole boat;inside and out, gets 2 coats of Turtle Wax Platinum Series paste wax. This includes the Yamahas and their lower units.

My Gulfstream 232 is a 2007 and it shines like new. There is the mark or scuff here-and-there, but it looks great.

Bottom line? It takes work to keep up with it. I justify it by my enjoyment of just looking at it and, let's face it, it's a major investment.

Wax everything. The non skid is easily polished with a machine or by hand. The diamond cut non skid usually found on a bow pulpit cannot be polished. A boat that only receives attention to the smooth surfaces will have a checkered appearance if exposed to direct sunlight over a couple years.

I wax everything including the inside gunnels. I use Garry's wax for most surfaces.
I treat/wax all metal and I wax the decks using Woody wax. This stuff is expensive but works well on non-skid. If you fish, waxing the deck helps since it keeps blood/guts from staining the deck. You have to follow the directions for Woody wax exactly and note that although it is not slippery when wet AFTER it is applied and dried, it is really slippery when applying.
Depending on you usage and the weather. you may need to apply the deck wax more than once a season.
