I've been planning to switch off launching my Grady Overnighter and my 15' aluminum boat for day trips in the Delaware river this season.
The ramps available are good ramps but getting the permits to use them are not so easy.
I know I could just buy the season pass, Bordentown at $100 and Trenton at a reasonable $50 which is good but I generally don't get the season passes because I trailer all over my area. I dunk in near my home in the Manasquan River, near Sandy Hook Raritan Bay and the next week down near Tuckerton. I don't always take the Grady either as sometimes when its just me the tin boat is better suited for skinny water and runs all day on less than 2 gal. of gas. Its easier to launch by myself too.
Season passes are also linked to the boat not the tow vehicle so I'd have to buy two.
Considering all that the ramp daily use fees are usually a better choice for me.
The Delaware River municipal ramps while they are all very well built and maintained ramps, having good docks and lots of parking have a down side as not all take payment at the ramp.
Example, about two years back when I wanted to use the Florence ramp I had to trailer over to the town hall first for the daily use permit before I could launch. That tied up an additional 20-30 minutes. When its fishing day, I just want to get to the ramp and launch, don't even like stopping for food on the way. Bait maybe.
(I keep bait tanks so I am usually stocked up)
Bordentown Ramp I believe does take payment at the ramp but I don't know if that's 7 days a week or what the hours of attendance are.
Trenton has a great ramp which I used years ago when it was free. I loved it. Lots of parking, a double ramp, docks, and its easy to get to.
Now they charge a fee, $10 (more than fair, great ramp, they can get that), its actually making payment that's the problem.
I called the # on the web site provided for questions and got a nice young lady who could only confirm what the fees were as they were listed on the site.
She said I'd have to get the daily use permit at the Trenton municipal building. Can't do it on line either. Now while the ramp is easy to get to that municipal building is not and some of those Trenton streets are tight. My rig, a pickup and trailer is almost 50' long, no way am I going to risk driving that through Trenton. Pick a bad time and I'll get caught in traffic too.
She did not know if there was going to be an attendant at the ramp at any part of the season either. Its a shame because that is a really nice ramp.
Any one use these ramps and know for sure how they are run? Any pros and cons on them?
While the actual ramps are well maintained the municipal web sites are outdated and are really no help.
Anything you guys/gals can provide will be very much appreciated.
Thanks, Mike.
