Someone recently tried to break into my Seafarer and as a result the top piece of teak that screws into the plexiglas and overlaps the door was broken into unrepairable pieces. This is a L-shaped piece of teak that I certainly cannot replicate with my poor carpentry skills. Wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase this piece of wood? By the way, since I don't store anything in the cabin I'll leave it unlocked from this point forward. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry to hear about your break-in; that is why I for one do not lock my cabin.

As for the 'L' teak, you should be able to have a starboard 'L' made as a replacement. You may want to contact Grady for the part number if available for a teak one.

Good luck to you.

thanks

Thanks but I was hoping to get another one in the teak material. I'll never lock it again.

Take the broken teak pieces to a cabinet maker and price up a replica.

Alternate to no lock, you may want to consider a very cheap tiny lock that is easy enough to break but avoids damage. This way the non-professional is discouraged abut evidence remains if so entered, otherwise you may have sleepover guests that you won't know about. The depot and lowes sell these brass type locks in multipacks- keyed alike.

And leave any window curtains open which also allows the sun to keep the interior warm and dry. If you are hiding things, best to hide them out of site if feasible while still leaving the curtains open. What they see will be nothing, so they want nothing.

You may notice different size locks on dock boxes in any marina, I would guess the bigger the lock the bigger the bootie (?), even though every box latch is the same and presents little challenge to a wonder bar.

So, for two reasons both defeating the very reason for locks, avoid heavy locks if the latch is weaker to begin with.

I could fabricate one for you if you would be able to provide a detailed drawing of all mesurements including holes and fasteners used. I teach in a high school "shop" so it should not be a problem. PM if interested.
