My 2001 33'Express has a Kohler gasoline generator. A couple of months ago I smelled gasoline in the bilge. Turned out the small fuel filter mounted near the bottom of the generator corroded to the point it was leaking fuel. Before i knew where the leak was from I tried to flush out some of the fuel with seawater, which then entered the generator. Between paying to have the fuel removed from the main tank and the bilge, having the generator pulled from the boat and rebuilt, I've had to pass up on some electronic upgrades I had in mind. Not to mention the stress of having a time bomb sitting behind the house in the canal with 20 gallons of fuel in the bilge! All because of a $30 fuel filter mounted in a spot where it's difficult to keep dry. Not an issue with the newer diesel generators but something older boat owners should look into.
