My wife Cindy wanted to go for a jet ski ride this morning. I said I wanted to go fishing. So we compromised and did both! I threw a couple of eels, a rod and a gaff on the ski and we departed our house in Poquoson Va. around 0815 this morning. I ran out to the York River Channel in the Chesapeake Bay and cast a live eel at several sets of buoys. No luck, so I crossed over to the Baltimore Channel and worked a couple sets. My third buoy paid off and I got hooked up nice on my third cast. The fish went back for the buoy and I could feel my line rubbing against it. Luckily I got him off and away from after a little coaxing. It was a fun twenty minute fight, he made several laps around my ski with another Cobia following him the whole time. Cindy handed me the gaff as he came alongside and I stuck him solid bringing him right on board. We both held him down with our feet as I put him on a stringer.
Twenty minutes later at 40mph we were back at our dock by 1030 hrs. The fish measured 53 inches. I cleaned him up and we both enjoyed "as fresh as gets" Cobia on the grill for lunch. Here are some pictures from today.

Brian-

I moved from the Hampton Roads area last summer. Sadly, I subsequently had to sell my Grady (no water where I am now). However, reading your fishing reports here is a great way for me to relive all of my fishing memories while I was there. I certainly remember seeing you out and about on your ski all the time. I still can't believe all you accomplish on that crazy thing! Anyway, I hope to move back in the future but in the meantime, keep the reports coming. I follow you and the gang on Tidal Fish too. Good luck and Good fishing! Nice fish, BTW. It takes some guts to subdue a thrashing cobia on a ski like that! Did you blind cast to the bouys or did you sight cast him? Thx.

Thanks for the reply, I was blind casting to the bouys. Last year I caught over fifty, I am of to a slow start this season.
