Very interested in purchasing a 2003 voyager 258 in my area but not sure whats different from the newer journey 2007. Mainly concerned about big differences like hull changes. Its also powered by a single yamaha 250HPMI so am little bit concerned about dependability and being underpowered? Want to do some near shore and offshore fishing < 40 miles. Looking for any feedback on the voyager 258. Thanks

No hull changes, basically the same hull on both models. In fact, with a few small changes they are the same boat.
I don't know about the engine power but that 250HPMI has a great reputation.

What year did they lengthen the hull to the transom?

No difference between the '03 and '07. The 248 was lengthened and became the 258 in 2003.

I'd be leery of the 250 HPDI....it is NOT the same as the 200 HPDI, which is one of the best motors Yamaha ever made. Do a Google search on the 250 and you will have plenty to read.

Did not know about the issues with the yamaha 250 HDPI's. You were right I did a google search and there were major issues with that motor(mostly blown power heads--$$$$)...I really appreciate it.
