Anyone else in the upper Midwest find this to be a difficult time of year? Every year I get into late February through end of March and a) winter is starting to subside so there's open water and a few 50+ degree days, b) people in more southerly regions are posting fantastic fishing pics c) it's either crazy windy, my boat is stored away and not accessible, or the docks haven't been installed yet.

Longing for several days on the water. If I could make this FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) thing work I'd be there! Alas, next time I'm 18 - 25 yrs old I'm going to max out my retirement contribution instead of the beer fund.

Good point on the retirement, but even solid portfolios got wiped out from the Great Recession, and many folks I know were set back to the Stone Age including myself, and nervous about investing since.

As my brother in law told me "80 is the new 60" as far as retirement age.

Since I am out West and winter was almost non existent this year, and have been posting fish pics-I apologize

Spring will come your way before you know it!

NE isn't much better. This past winter was great with little snow, but usually we still have it on the ground in March and get a spring storm or two in April. It doesn't start to get close to nice until May.

Agree from the NE perspective as well. I always say that the month between March 15 and April 15 is the most difficult month to get through - not due to tax dread, but because we've had a couple teases of good weather, and then a lot of rain and mid 30's temps. Many times the first really good weekend is Memorial Day.

Too much rain... cannot mow OR boat heh

Temp is fine here, however it has been too windy to get offshore. This time of the year we want to get to the East edge of the gulf stream for yellowfin and Mahi. 120 mile run for us, usually leave the Port the evening before and motor out all night to be on the East edge by sun up. We are looking for a 2 day weather/wind window.....

back to cold in the NE. hopefully will turn in a month or so. go my lime down on the grass on sunday though with the warmer weather....

To be honest and not too morbid, my boats are the least of my worries right now. If I had either one near my home, I probably would be working on it just to keep busy. Unfortunately they are not on hand and I am a tad concerned about being at my marina. Although I consider myself relatively healthy, I am in the risk group ( geezer!). Until we know more about the situation and see some light at the end of the "lagoon" , I am trying to heed the experts advice and stay home as best I can

I'm going to work on my boat at the marina if they don't shut it down. I can call and have the forklift operator put the boat on an outside rack. I won't need to get within 6 ft of anybody and UV light from the sun inactivates the virus pretty quickly in any case.

I'm going fishing with somebody tomorrow because of a prior commitment. After that, I won't be doing anything other than by myself. My wife is immune-compromised and has a heart condition. I don't want to be bringing anything home to her.

Like seasick said, our boats should be the least of our worries right now. EVERYBODY needs to take the proscribed steps to knock this thing down ASAP.

I plan on self -isolating with a fishing rod in my hand as soon as the motors are on....

Fishing here usually sucks until the first week of May though...

We hear that April is the best month for big Hudson canyon golden tilefish. With the boat going in so early, we'll be giving that a try if we get the weather.
