Drain Plug Fitting Mounting Screws

Im resealing my drain plug fitting. The screws that were there are a bit short (maybe 3/4" at most) and i am putting new ones in that are longer at 1 1/4". There is plenty of transom thickness at around 3".

Question - Should I pre drill the holes the deeper to full 1 1/4" depth, or run the new screws in the same holes as they are?

I would try to drive in one screw without sealant or the flange just to see if the core is hard or soft. Soft may be an indicator of an issue that needs additional investigation. If the core is firm and the screw can be screwed in as far it it needs to go then remove it apply your 4200 to the screw hols and the back of the flange and put the screws in. Do not super tighten the screws. Tighten enough to squeeze the 4200 . After an hour or two or more depending on the weather, give the screws a good tightening. You do this step so that you don't initially squeeze out all the adhesive.
If you can't hand screw in the screw, then drill a small pilot hole.
