Long time no post. I like the new look here :goodjob .

Anyway I have been threatening to repower since the engine blew in May on my 1990 232 Gulfstream. It has the drop transom. I have found a great deal on a 2011 models here in Tampa. There is exactly 900 bucks difference from a 250 to 300. Other than a few mph what is any other advantage to going 300. This is short notice as I am dropping the deposit tomorrow.

Thanks in advance...

Inquire at GW corporate about a 300 hp. GW dealerships have been stocking the newer 232s with the Yamaha F350. That tells you something. Get the 300hp if Grady says okay.

I am in a similar situation with my '88 Gulfstream. I've checked out both motors and have been toying with the idea of the 300. Honestly, I don't know if it's exactly needed, but you know....more power! I email'd Grady and they would only talk about the Yamaha motors, but said the 300 V6 would be fine, but the V8 was too heavy. This is their response:

You can use Yamaha's 225hp, 250hp or 300hp(v6 only) engines. We do not
recommend the V8's(300 or 350) as they weigh over 800 lbs each.

Let us know what you decide doing.

Before I dropped the cash..I was referred to a guy that has an old Stamas 25' with a 250 Etec and that had more than enough power. Very quick to plane, and WOT of 42 on the GPS. So I dropped the cash on a 250. A thousand bucks buys alot of oil. If I wanted speed I would have done twin 200's
