Fished with 5 friends on a 47' Buddy Davis Sunday afternoon to Monday morning Oct.16th. Caught a dozen Mahi's around the pots on the east side of the wall. Caught two 40 lb. yellows trolling in the same area. Set up for the night chunking around 6:30. Put one down deep and worked three at different depths in a wind against tide situation. Caught more Dolphin until deep rod got a hit. Not much of a fight . Small Swordfish about 60lbs. We let the little guy go.My shift ended at 11:30 went to sleep. Night report was more mahi, couple shark and another small Sword. Got up around 4am with a yellowfin being gaffed. For the next two and a half hours we had a least one tuna on at all times. We had them boiling behind the boat. We threw herring, baby bunker and sardines 20 ft. back and they crashed them at the surface. We took off a little line in the cockpit and tossed the hook bait in the same area where it was taken instantly. We only wanted two on at a time. We kept feeding the school. Final tally was 18 Yellows 35-55 lbs. 12 Albacore to 60lbs. 20 Mahi 10-20 lbs. 2 Swords released.Arrived back at Montauk at noon where four of us cut fish for over an hour. Its the way the Canyon can be in October.
