Does the rocker switch send power to the fuel gauge or does it simply make the connection from the main tank's sender unit wire or the auxiliary tank's sender unit wire when the selection is made?

My Overnighter had that switch from the factory which is funny as there is no provision for s second tank. When I redesigned the panel out fitting it with a bank of bluesea switches I omitted that switch running the hot lead from the ignition switch.
I think someone at the factory design team made it like an early Jaguar under the principle that "more switches make it cool".
