What alloy is the frame made of for the factory hardtops? Also, what welding method do they use? I am a TIG welder but the wide, smooth discolored welds on them baffle me as to what they used. they dont look like Tig or Mig to me. I need to repair one. Thanks.

The aluminum should be 6061 and is TIG welded...the welds are covered in aluminum colored paint to look pretty and resemble the rest of the top. The tubing is anodized, so when they weld, the paint on the joints covers everything.

... and if I had the courage, I'd remove mine and paint it all white. Previous owner did not bother with fresh water, so there's lots of pitting and it annoys the hell out of me, albeit only aesthetic. Anodising is great, just until you break through its skin - then, no repair, no paint will solve anything. Frustrating! :bang
