OK see if i can explain this, i am installing a bow pulpit this year, and i am gonna PIECE in the extension for the pulpit railing.

The railing is i believe 7/8 and what i would like to do is where the 2 railing will join together ( Have like a thinner peice of stinless steal tubing running through each peice to re-inforce them.)

Question would be what size tubing will go through a 7/8 railing?

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand why you feel the need to reinforce the rail since the only purpose it serves is a deck edge guard/ hand-hold.
If you are using OEM SS type railing it's already plenty strong

He's talking about cutting the existing rail in order to insert a section that will wrap the bow pulpit he want's to install.

My advice would be to take it to a welder and let him lay a bead where the two pieces meet. That should be plenty strong.

When Grady sells the pulpit kit, I believe it calls for a cut and they have an insert included and epoxy to set it in place. I don't think it's the type of splice with the set screws.

If the insert is long enough and it get epoxy set properly, strong as anything without much indication notice it is not continuous.

Mobile TIG welders don't come cheap, travel time is not gratis.
