How Secure a Danforth Style Anchor in the Anchor Lockerr

Hello, I was hoping to get some advice on how to secure the anchor in the anchor locker on my 228 Seafarer. I bought a Kimpex 9lb Danforth style anchor and chain and hung it in the anchor locker. I went out fishing yesterday on the east coast of Vancouver Island and while heading back to the Comox Marina we ran in to some lumpy water and I noticed the anchor was hitting the inside of the anchor locker. I was thinking either to secure it to the metal bracket in the locker with a bungy cord or rope but was wondering what others have used. I’m new to using an anchor locker so would just like some advice, thanks, Don
 
Are you sure it’s the anchor and not the chain? I am looking into the same, but I don’t see much play in the anchor and the noise I am hearing sounds more like the clanging noise of metal on metal rather than a banging noise.


Is your anchor locked in? What year is your 228?
 
If you have the correct size bar so it can't drop off it can't hit anywhere. I had one on my old 228, never had a problem. Sure you can hear the chain bouncing but that will not damage anything.
 
It’s a 1999 and yes the anchor is locked in across the top, I did put a triangular piece of rubber at the bottom as the chain was wedged into the drain hole at the bottom and I had to go into the cuddy to pull the chain to free it. I’m sure the sound I’m hearing is the anchor rocking in the clips as the access door in the cuddy had been knocked open and laying in the cuddy during the lumpy ride back to the Marina.
 
I’ll take pics this evening of my 2000 228 to see if our setup is similar. Curious if the direction matters with regards to which side faces forward.

Does the access in the cuddy have a clip or locking mechanism or is it unsecured?
 
A picture would be great, I never thought about which direction to place it in the clips but I will test that. I thought a bungy cord wrapped around the metal bracket used for the bow eye and the top cleat on the pulpit should hold it was swinging in the locker and hitting anything, thanks
 
So I don’t believe my anchor can open the access point in the cuddy. How it sits in the locker, it can only pivot about three inches before it hits against the inside of the top part of the locker.

In the one photo, you will see marks of when it hits against the top. I need to put a cushion here to limit the force a bit.

Is yours setup the same?

I’m going to use a rubber bungy strap for the long arm of the anchor and just duct tape the wings to stop those from banging on the metal bracket
 
I have to test mine from inside the cabin as there didn’t seem to be much play in it when testing from the top.

Take pics of what you end up doing and whether it works.

It looks like you have a pulpit. Why not use your pulpit for storing the anchor, that's what it's for.

I just assumed that the anchor stayed in the anchor locker until needed as I can’t see having the chain laying on the top of the pulpit what not in use and chipping the gel coat. But I would love to see pictures and/or examples of how others have stored their anchors on the pulpit of a 228G Seafarer.

I have a windlass so the chain lays on the pulpit. No chips. That is the function of the pulpit. Makes anchoring easier. Maybe google it or look at other boats. It’s a proven setup but you need a why to secure the anchor. I use a plow anchor not a danforth.
 
I am assuming Grady has a slightly different design if they install a bow pulpit or don’t. Can you close your anchor locker if the chain is exposed? Also, is your pulpit designed so the chain/ rope passes through the pulpit so the anchor would be secured underneath when up or lay on top?

An older boat of mine would pass through so one half underneath and the other half above. The part that was above would be somewhat airborne so it wouldn’t lay flat against the pulpit on top. The chain would tie securely to an anchor with no play and then go into the locker. Never an issue with rubbing as part of the pulpit was metal and other part the chain didn’t touch because it was somewhat airborne.
