Put your Ice into onion sacks or the bags that they pack clams into instead of just dumping ice into the coolers so this way you can pack the ice the way you want it . Alot of guys complain that the ice melts together and they cant use it this way, you can pull the ice out of the cooler. Insert the fish then refill with ice. without having ice all over the deck.

We have a chest freezer and I just use 2 and 3 litre juice bottles filled with salt water ( lower frezing point) Lasts great no water everywhere and when we get home just give them a rinse and put back in the freezer for next trip. I have a collection of about 10 now and save heaps on ice.
