Looking for the best vehicle for everyday long commute AND to haul 18' GW twice a year. Will a V8 Ford Explorer or Nissan Pathfinder be a safe choice; they tow 6300 lbs and the boat/trailer is around 5000 lbs.? Or do we need to go with a larger SUV or pickup like a Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia, or F150 which town 9300 lbs? Need advice.

I used to tow a 19 Tournament with a V8 Explorer and it did great. As long as you have the tow package and the class 3 hitch you will be fine.

I towed my 180 with a Toyota 4Runner v6 for years, no prob. 180 with trailer is maybe 3500-4000 lbs

I pulled my 20' Pursuit with a V8 Explorer and you barely know it was there. Weight was +/-5,000 lbs fueled.

No Problem

You could put a few keggers in the boat and still have plenty of HP.

You should be fine. How far are you towing? Does the Explorer have a towing package that includes a transmission cooler and a 3:50 or higher rear axle ratio?
