Need Engine ADvice

Hi,

I found a used 228 seafarer and the engine is shot.

I m in the process of researching buying a new engine for my GW and would like everyone's advice....

What HP should i be getting for my 228 and what make and model should I buy???

I would like a reliable engine that will last for awhile, i see everyone with yamaha four strokes but r there comparable engines out there that cost a bit less?

I m here in SoCal

My 1989 228 has a 225hp Johnson on it. Grady shows up to 280HP for the 228 in 1989 as stated in owners manual.

My buddy bought a used one 8 years ago with a 200 Evinrude..he repowered it with a 200 Etec and he said it was like a new boat...
