I just launched my new 275 Tournament with a 350 Yamaha, and need some advise. The manuel says to use Ring Free in the fuel to avoid Carbon build-up. What about a fuel additive. This is my first outboard, and in my inboards I always used Star Tron. Is it o.k to use Ring Free and Star Tron in the fuel together. What would you recommend. Thanks, ron t.

Congrats & welcome.

Other members here with your setup.

That's corrcet about carbin and 4 strokers, 4 strokers thought they were getting away from carbon when they got away from 2 strokers, not so.

Yamaha 4 stroke owners manual is a takeoff of 2 stroke manual in many ways. Some pages seem word for word.

Sure you can use Startron and Ringfree together, you can also look at Stabil Marine formula.

For years, I have been using Ring Free + PRI-G stabilizer. If I plan to burn my fuel within 60 or 90 days (like ALL of it), I will skip the PRI-G but always put 1 oz. of RF per 10 gallons fuel as the Yamaha instructions specify. Good luck. I think you're gonna like the outboard club...

fyi, my yamaha tech says to use the ring free. he said they ripped down an engine and could see noticeable differences in carbon build up. also, while they do sell ring free, it's not where they make their money.

i guess it would be better for them to recommend not using it, now that would give them a few valve jobs!

I had done the "update" last week on my f350's. I called today yamaha outboard customer service and i asked the rep about what should i use on my motors and he insist of using ring free every fill up and also any additive i feel comfortable with for the ethanol issues we have. I told him that i'm using ring free and startron and he said that i'm doing the right thing for my motors. I've been using both for 3-4 years now and never had a problem.
