Hello to all! I acquired my first Grady White a few months ago. It is a 1995 245 Explorer with a 5.7 Volvo Penta stern drive.
I have found myself frequently searching this forum for info on my boat. So i finally decided that i ought to join and see if I can contribute to the wealth of knowledge on this site.
A little about me.. My name is Brad Hildreth. I live in Virginia Beach Va and i am a mechanic for a marine construction and diving contractor in the area. I am a certified diesel engine mechanic I previously worked for Cummins and am partial to those engines. And yes one day im gonna find a way to have a cummins in my explorer  !
I hope i can contribute to this great forum!

So.. there is a bit of a story when it comes to Chianti's Revenge....
My first boat was a hand me down Bayliner Trophy. That was my parents. On their maiden voyage about a mile or so from the boat ramp. They came to the realization that they had forgotten to put the plug in the bilge. They were starting to ride pretty low so my quick thinking father uncorked a bottle of chianti. jumped in and was able to cork the hole. But spilling the wine in the process...
So if anyone knows the chesapeake bay they know the damn rock at the third island that sticks out. Well early last summer i went a bit too close and struck the rock. Everyone was ok and we made it back to the dock fine. But insurance totaled the boat. Somehow I was able to get a massive upgrade to my Grady out of it. And the bottle of Chianti got his revenge to the bayliner :D :D

Good story! And I can definitely relate to the garboard drain plug thing... actually a few times... But I always like to say that you're not a real boater if you haven't forgotten the plug at least once! The most recent was a fishing trip to a local lake with my brother and our sons (about 5 and 6 at the time). I work part time at a local marina so I borrowed one of our used, CC boats that was on the lot. We were out for about 45 minutes, catching nothing else than Sunny's, but the kids were loving it. I then turned to my brother and said "Do you feel like we're sitting a little low in the water"? He said "Yeah, kinda". I opened the center floor hatch and the water was about 2" under the cockpit floor! My brother is younger than me and given that it was still early in the season (and the water was still chilly), guess who jumped in? Anyways, we just kicked the bilge pump on (there was nothing that low in the boat that would be harmed) and kept fishing. Took about an hour and a half for the water to pump out. That was a good day.
