Going to build a few things for the boat and needed to try and match the color up. Anyone know of a good paint that matches the Grady gel-coat

Big W,

that's a tough one to match as even the gel coat will fade over time and won't match up perfectly with new gel coat of the same batch. Interlux makes plenty of colors that come close and I have heard guys even mix two colors that are close to get it just right. Their "Perfection" line is a nice 2 part system thats durable and coats well. I've used it for several top side repairs. Any good marine store should carry it.

Awl Grip H8571 is a color match for a 2001 Grady and some other years but I don't know which. I sent awl grip a chip and they color matched it. Any awl grip dealer can pull the formula from the computer under H8571. It came out well but maybe just a tinge lighter but only noticable by me.

Big W ,
I rolled and tipped it with a brush...but still ended up super finely sanding and then polishing/waxing with 3M compound to blend in as best I can.

Saltypup has a good idea regarding the Awlgrip (wish I knew that 4 years ago)...its a slightly higher end paint normally used by the pros, but if that number he posted is a match for the gel coat, I'd try it if it were locally available...you won't find it at a West Marine, but any good boatyard could get it to you. I don't know the minimum quantity for Awlgrip, but you can buy Perfection in Pint size 2 part components.

Minimum size is a quart and then of course you will need converter which is sold in quarts and also reducer which is also sold in quarts. All together you'll spend about 150 bucks and end up with the equivalent of over two quarts of product that goes a long way.
Awl grip sprays well with those little prevail sprayers but make sure you practice on some junk and get the hang of it before you start on your actual parts. The finished product is beautiful and extremely durable. Awlgrip is a great product but it's touchy to use and you MUST follow the directions. For a preview of what's involved go to their website and you'll find a link to directions for application. It's really not that hard after you get the process down and I don't think there's a better paint product.
Send them a chip of your own gel coat and they will match it or I can tell you the above mentioned formula will match good. Call them and they will tell you what dealer in your area has the color blending stuff to get custom colors.
