Go to boats.net and look up prices under CYLINDER CRANKCASE 2 Diagram for your year motor. Pretty cheap and easy job to complete. When I did mine, I replaced the spring, valve, rubber grommet and gasket (parts 19-22). About $12 in parts. I also did the hose (part 25) while I was at it for another $10.

I just did my 225 OX 66's.
For better access I removed the rear latch. 2 bolts easy on & off.
I also replaced the hose and valve cover housing. Mine are 1998s and there was a lot of corrosion on the tail.
Take your time and it is easy. My bolts came out with no problem.

I see the diagram. Which part numbers do I need? Nothing says "poppet". Is it like 20-25? My port engine overheat warning comes on at idle even though water is squirting out the hole. The safety feature won't let me start it till it cools down. If I power up I can run all day with no problem. So I guess it's the poppet valve since the pump/impeller is new. Question. Do you think it's really overheating or just indicating it's not getting enough water flow?

Simple job. It's harder to find a beer bottle opener on a hot day than it is to replace the poppet valve.
