My 2009 336 Canyon just began to steer hard. Our boat mechanic flushed and top off the fluids. That didn't help. We can see a leaky seal on the port engine. He thinks changing seals will fix it and we plan on doing that tomorrow. I am a skeptic and wonder if its a faulty hydraulic pump. Does anyone here have experience with steering issues ? Do you think we're on the right track ?

Thanks

I had the power assist pump go after about 3 years. Could be that. There was a recall back then (around 2009). Suggest you go with the seals to see if that fixes it as they are prob cheaper and need to get done anyway,

Thanks for the response. My mechanic changed the seals this morning and then determined that the power Sea Star power assist pump is not working. He spoke to the lead mechanic at the Grady dealer here in Florida who told him about the recall and that I should contact Grady to see if we can get some help.
Its a $2,000 pump. We"ll see. I have found Grady to be pretty helpfull with my 336 which is one of the reasons I sold my Tiara up north and bought a 366 Canyon for there.

Thanks for your advice. You were right on the money ..

Good luck. As I recall the pump manufacturer was on the hook for the cost. That being said, I'd definitely get Grady Customer Service involved. Hopefully they have some pull with the manufacturer and will help you get it resolved to your satisfaction.

I contacted Grady and as usual they were great and got right back to me. The recall was in 2012 only, and it was for an issue that was causing steering to stick in a small number of pumps. So I m sucking it up and my mechanic is installing a new pump today. I guess it could be worse.

Last year after years of problems, I finally tossed the unreliable Raymarine electronics over the side and installed all new Simrad. I have Garnins in my 366 Canyon up north and love them but I have had to repalce a black box twice after failures. Nothing more un-nerving than having everything fail when your out 20 miles. The Simrad equipment was highly recomended by our local sea tech gurus here in Naples Fl. It was the best move I ever made. So this year I feel like I got off easier. Oh well. We have all heard the old cliche' that a boat is a hole into the water where we throw money.

Thanks for your advice. After driving Tiara's for 25 years and liking it, I have to say that these Grady's are the best boats I have ever owned...
