prop talk

OK so i've just got a recomendation from one of our prop dealers here and his suggestion is 4 blade x 14 1/4 inch dia.x 17inch pitch.

He believes it will hold the boat up at cruise better and more efficient, and money back gaurantee. At $1500 aus more than $2000 US they would need to be substantially more efficient?

With fuel currently around $1 per litre I would need to save approx 2000 liters.
I currently do around 250 hours yearly @ 30 litres per hour av. so 6250 litres yearly.Even at 10% improvement (highly unlikely) in efficiency it's a 10 year use to pay for itself........

Company is called Solas Props and they are probably the biggest aftermarket prop supplier in Aus.
I believe their props are all made in China.
The reason we all try to buy so much stuff from the US is it soooooo much cheaper!

stay away from solas, they are crap!!!!!
i have talked to my buddies who owns a prop shop and say they are not even close to the specs

merc makes the best prop, hence they are the only ones with a race division

this year yami will have better props
brp has a better line up also

SLIMJIM or 49erjim here has the same boat and same motors
i can get 5700 out of his boat 70% loaded, i ran it last summer for him
he has stainless yami props, i forget 3 or 4 blade, been so long though, lol

Thanks Ritchie. I would really like to know excactly which props your mate has.
I just checked a company called Hill props in the US. They have developed a 5 blader but their 4 blades are less than $300 each.

Have you heard of these guys?

no need to run a 5 blade prop on your boat
i will call jim in the morning and ask
heck im actully going to b right by the boat and i will swing by and look for myself if he cant remember what they are

If you find something you want, let me know, i can get great discounts on products

call the www.propgods.com in FL and see what they say

Dropping pitch will increase revs, not decrease them.

Based on my experience, I'd recommend switching from the black steel props to Mirage+ 17 (or the Quicksilver equivilent without the vents). My 232 with 200 twin hpdis had 17" black steel props.

The would turn approximately 5700 rpm at 45 mph with a lot of slip, and backed poorly at the dock. Very hard to handle.

With 19" Mirage+ I still was able to turn 56-5700 rpm and picked up about 5 knots, to 52 mph. The midrange efficiency was much better, docking better, less ventilation, and much greater top speed.

On my 205/F200 I switched from a 17" SWSII to a 17 Mirage+ and get a lot more bow lift with trim, slower planing speeds, higher cruise mpg and 1 or 2 mph WOT at 100-200 more rpm.

I would think the 265 pick up a few revs with better bow lift for cruise efficiency with 17" Mirage+.

Edit: I missed page 2 until I posted this.

I'm going to be away from my PC for a week but I'm definitely interested in any secondhand offers . Mercury recommended 17 deg pitch inertia props.
A friend with a single 300hpdi on a 25 BW CC has replaced his yammie prop with a mercury 4 blade and reports 3 knot increase at cruise revs.

I'm really inyterested in the 4 blade idea for heavy boats. Any thoughts?
