Hi Folks,

I have been having some jamming issues with the windlass usually near the rope to chain connection (both of which are 2 years old and dealer replaced). In taking the windlass apart to replace the manual pawl (which had bent) I noticed the Gypsy is pretty well worn and not necessarily looking good.

Any ideas as to which one the factory used? Size 001, 002, or 003?

The boat is now in storage and Id like to see what the factory one should be.

Thank you very much

Alex

Replacement gypsy for Lewmar V1, V2 and V3 windlasses and the obsolete model Concept 1 windlass. 001 Specifications: Chain Size: 5/16" G4 Rope Size: 5/8" 3-strand 002 Specifications: Chain Size: 5/16" G4 Rope Size: 1/2" - 5/8" 006 Specifications: Chain Size: 1/4" G4 Rope Size: 1/2"

What size chain and rope do you have? That determines the gypsy you will want. In other words, match it up to the chain/rope you currently have. What may or may not have been there from the factory is not important.

As mentioned, you need to match the gypsy to the chain and line.
The chain should have the type stamped on the links. There are several versions of 5/16 or 1/4 chain . Since you said that the problem occurs mostly at the line to chain splice and that the rode has been changed twice, I suspect you have mis matched parts
