I have a 2007 257 and would like to know how to clean the strainer for the raw water washdown. Do I need a spanner wrench or something else to unscrew the cap? I can't unscrew it by hand.

Thanks for any help!!

Thanls Catch....I will try that

Your welcome.

If you don't want to bother getting that wrench, you could also try using an ordinary leather belt. Just sinch it up with the end of the buckle facing counter clockwise. Just be carefull, so the buckle itself doesn't crack the cap.

Some strainer caps have raised edges or notches and gently tapping on them will usually losen it up, (if you have the room to get at it). Don't want to risk anything metal, (like a screw driver) so maybe a piece of wooden trim, or a paint stirrer would do the trick.

Cap should have an O ring and when re-installing, you might want to coat the threads and O ring with a silicone or O ring/plastic safe grease. Makes it easier to remove later.
