I have several questions about recoating a boat with paint,I know it is less expensive than re gellcoating but how long does the paint last in comparison to the gellcoat? What needs to be done to keep it up? Also: when it is time to redo it, is it more expensive to redo than putting it on for the first time? I have found out the hard way, in the past; on several things that sometimes spending less going in; costs much more in long run to keep up. The boat is a 1990 Gulfstream the paint they are talking about is " Imron ". I'm thinking that the original color for boat would be best but Iam wondering if you have repainted your boat would you do it again if needed? What are the pro's and con's of this process?

painted my 252gt seafoam green 2 years ago, imron last bout 5 to 7 years with out any care and will last lots longer if its rinsed off reqular and waxed once a year, most of the expense is in the prep work and that all depend on how bad the boat is beat up when you start to sand and fill , i prefer my boat painted insted of gellcoat, and all hatteras yacths are painted with imron or use to be imron they had their own off white imron color number 6644u if i rember right, so that says a lot if they belive paint vs gelcoat.
