I have to repair a few nicks in my hull, but first I need to remove the paint around the affected area. Any ideas on the best way to do this? Thanks!

I would say a D-A sander and some 80grit disc.

If you don't have a compressor for a DA, and random orbit sander or even a palm sander will do fine for a small area.....in either case, it will be a dusty mess and the stuff is not good for you.....wear goggles and a really good mask....a little acetone and lots of rags for final wipe down...

I use this =

I bought it at Home Depot for very short $, like 20 bucks or so. Hook it up to a random orbital sander with a vacuum port(use duct tape if you have to). I use 150 grit hook and loop papaer with the holes already in them for the dust collection and a very dirty job becomes 90% cleaner.

Maybe a little much for a small repair job but if you're doing a whole bottom job, night and day for cleanliness an clean up!
