Looking at re-power options for my 1996 263 Chase. The specs say its rated from 450 hp, but since the stern does not all the way to the motor well on the 96 version i wanted to know how it handles the increase in weight of the 4 stroke motors. It has 150 ocean pros on it now which would be significantly lighter than 4 stokes. I would like to get 200 or 225's to get a bump i speed for the longer offshore runs, but don't want it to affect the handling too much.

What has been your the experience for anyone that has re powered on of these boats.

I am looking at the Merc V-6 225’s for my 265. 484lbs is close to my 200 HPDI’s. Heard great things about these motors.

That is probably your best option...they modified the 263 and made it at 273 i think in 2002...and added buoyancy to handle the heavier 2 strokes....Merc's are getting popular..let's hope the reliability is there...

I have the 2002 273.
