Thanks for the add I have an 85 seafarer 227 (IO) that I’ve been restoring. The PO repowered with a 5.7 around 2000. I had ‘popping’ through the carb on acceleration on my last run last season. Digging into it now I have zero compression on cyl 5. I plan to pull the head (after I scope it) and hopefully it’s a bad valve or seat. Thinking about options I wonder if anyone ever did an outboard conversion with a notched transom like the 226s have. Thinking it might be simpler/less expensive than a new transom and brackets maybe a 225 etec for weight any thoughts? Thanks, Tom IMG_5295.jpeg

Your post makes it sound like you have a notched transom... but you wouldn't have that if you have a stern drive. Can you clarify what you're asking?
Mine’s a 227 with an IO. If the motor’s grenaded I was thinking about reporting options. Possible an outboard conversion. I was wondering if anyone ever converted to a notched transom ob instead of a bracket. Thanks!

Who are you going to report? :)

You'd be better off buying another boat than "converting" to a notched transom. It would be stupidly expensive to that. Just think it through a bit and look at all the work that would have to be done.

Besides, brackets are better, anyways.

a rebuilt 350 is likely around 3-4000. id put in a new block
