I picked up 89 254 sailfish with engine bracket.thinking of honda 225 4 strokes..are they going to be to heavy .about 100 pounds each compaired to the mercury 2 strokes.I got the 200 black max motors running but after a while the magnets blow out the port engine flywheel.

They weigh about 200 lb more per engine vs the 200 hp Black Max I once owned. The Mercs were under 400 lb with tilt and trim.

You can look up the specs online for your particular engines.

That's a heavy engine, probably 630 lbs wet. I had one for 15 years, and they have not changed that engine much . Had paint and corossion issues as well. I think there are lighter , more current offerings out there. Those new V6 and V8 Mercury's look like a perfect match for a 282

go over that bracket and transom to make sure they will handle the weight. the only other concern I would have is what does this do to the scuppers in the aft of the boat? will they now be underwater?

The lightest 4-stroke engines are the new Mercurys. The 225 hp V6 weighs only 475 lb.
