Surveyor told me about empowering by just having your computer on your outboard modified to increase HP.
Has anyone done this or heard of it?
Tks.

First you ask if a 150 is enough power and then you ask if you can increase hp by flashing the ECU. I guess you have your doubts. I am sure you will get actual user replies on this forum. Did you get a written report for the survey. I am curious. Personally based on similar hulls, I would like a tad more than a 4 stroke 150. It all depends on what performance you expect to get under what range of conditions.

With some engines, it is possible. With that engine it is not possible to get the same performance of a factory f200. You will find people who will tell you otherwise and gladly take your money to do it. Lighting that $$ on fire will net a similar result.

The 150 on that hull is probably the bare minimum you can get away with and have any sort of performance. That hull is rated for a 250, so in essence, you are 100 HP light. With a full load, people, fuel and gear, the 150 is going to struggle. If you're looking at a Nizpro tune, not sure if you'll get the desired results you want. For me, if this is the hull you want and everything else checks out, I'd figure a repower in the future to at least a F225 if not the F250 to get the full performance out of the package and you won't be questioning whether you have enough HP or not.

I have a modern Yamaha 250, which shares a ton of the engine with the 300. I was in the harbor the other day and someone told me his kid was a marine mechanic and flashed something and got 300 out of the 250. I'm skeptical, I've been told that to get the extra 50 out of the 250 engine, they had to increase the intake and the exhaust. I'm willing to believe that there is something you can get by playing with the ECU but not a lot.

For the sake of accuracy, if you have the mechanical f150 you won't get to 200 hp. If you have the DEC, it might be possible. The 150 mechanical is a 2.7 liter while the 150 DEC, 175 and 200 are 2.8.
