I'm interested in hearing how much a sirrus /xm system would be.
I round numbers, closest 100'll do.
For a complete turn knob setup.
I'm guessing one needs:
antenna/ receiver
subscription
and display....lets say mid level....3"-5" screen....
I'm not so sure I'm looking at the correct equipment. :bang
thanks

I got a Garmin GPS 4xx for about $450 - it came with the Sat. Antenna. I pay approx. $50/mth for the service, for six months of the year; there's a standby or "hibernate" for some small charge to get me through the winter without paying $50 each snowy month and without paying to "reactivate."

At $50, this includes a great deal of info; you can probably get by with less, but I needed coverage for Canada - and that is more $$.

I've been using it about three years now, no complaints.

I bought a Garmin GPSMap 478 and the optional GXM-30 weather antenna a number of years ago. Subscribed 12 months/yr to the Master Mariner package and have to say it was always worth the $50+ / month.

Recently changed some equipment, so I sold the GPSMap 478 (and an LMS-525CDF) and installed an HDS-7. Purchased the LWX-1 Sirius Weather Receiver for under $250, and subscribed to a Sirius weather package for about $30/month.

The monthly service charges are easy to quantify, as is the cost of the XM or Sirius weather receiver unit. The variable is which MFD you decide to display it on. Our 478 had a very small screen, but it was adequate. Much nicer to have the weather on a larger screen now.

I'm guessing MDF = multi function display.
You seem to be using GPS units to display info
sent from sirrus/ xm receivers (aprox $250+monthly subscription).
Is this about right?
thanks

That's exactly right - all the info (that you select) is overlaid on the Map. GPSMap421 ($399 MSRP) is typical.

Depends on the model and the year. Most support it now.
