When I shift into neutral engines are sometimes still engaged forward. Is this easy to fix? Thanks in advance, Mike

need more specifics on the engine.......check your shift shaft for decay...the older Yamahas had carbon steel shift shafts which rusted away and twisted/snapped....thats a big job as the power head has to come off and sometimes the bolts break...its about $750-$1000 job per engine  Or it could be a gear in the lower end or even just a cable issue....check to make sure its actually shifting/rotating at the engine.

Thanks richie, Its on a 2000 sailfish with 200hp ox66 engines. It doesn't happen all the time usually when trolling at very slow speeds at higher speeds the throttle works fine. Thanks, MIke

Remove the engine cowel and put the throttle (at the helm) in neutral. Take a look at the sift linkage arm on the engine. There is (should be) a line on the housing under the arm. It is the neutral position. If the arm doesn't line up with the mark, the cable needs to be adjusted ( easy to do). If it does or if you adjust it, ytr moving the throttle several times from neutral to foward and back to neutral to see if it stll lines up. If it seems to wander, you have a bad cable or a bad binacle ( probably a cable)
