Does anyone have experience with a single outboard 250-300hp outboard on a sailfish?

I would think a 250 would be a pig, in performance and in handling.

The 300 might be too much torque in one location. I would suggest contacting Grady customer service for their advice.

I had a pair of SWS 200hp and thought the match was perfect.

I have read that some folks who had the 150s were satisfied but have no first hand experience to comment. Keep in mind - Not all 150 are created equal.

What goal are you trying to attain? Is this about cost, weight, performance, mpg, resale?

Cost is a big factor, both initial and long term. I'm not too concerned about resale, I plan of keeping the boat awhile as I have a larger boat also.

WHAT ABOUT TWIN 150 2 STROKES?

I am one of many ... 1986 YAMAHA 150 2-strokes on my Sailfish 255 from 1986 through 2005 and 2005 YAMAHA F150's from 2005 to the present. What are your specific questions?

I've never been a fan of how the wide bodies ride on a single screw. I've had many debate with Gulfstream owners who say there is no difference but I've ridden both extensively and the twin set-up rides much better. I don't know why but it is not my imagination. I imagine the 255 will be the same.

Also, around the dock it will be a bear with a single screw. If cost is a factor there are plenty of used twin screw set-ups around. In fact, there was a thread very recently over on THT that listed several pairs of motors for sale....Some looked like great deals. What year is your 255?
