Hi Guys,
My dealer replaces these every year at the cost of $120 (12 plugs at about $10 a pop). This seems to be overkill given today's technology and typical car replacement schedule. I know the statement "Better to do it and keep you in the water - it is a short season in the NE", but it sure adds another expense to what is a costly experience.

My dealer's service manager told me some years ago that the plugs were good for at least 200 hrs.

The plugs for my 2000 SX150 are about $3.25 each. Six of then is pretty cheap compared to the other maintenance items so I change than every season.

Yamaha would like you to check them and clean at 10hrs, 50hrs and replace at 100hrs.

The 10 and 50 hr checks are the initial ( new motor) intervals. The 100 is the ongoing interval. Since like many recreational boaters, I run 15 to 25 outings a season AND in those trips, my motor is actually running less than 3 hours, one full season is less than 100 hours. So fo me and a lot of others, once a season is frequent enough. I could probably go 2 on a set but for 20 bucks, why not change them.
