Queenfish off Salamander reef. Perfect day, lots of fun on light ie 6 kg tackle.They jump like Dolphin fish.

Queenfish We caught about 6 in 1 hour but they were all returned to fight another day.Reasonable eating, but excellent fun on light tackle.

Yes Ocnsir, thankyou i believe we have them sorted.

A combination of problems that started with dirty fuel from long time lack of use .....
Replacement of 3 sets of Racor elements.......
Rebuilding of port high pressure pump and checking Starboard side......
Replacing diaphragms in lift pumps........
Cleaning of 02 sensors...........
Checking and cleaning all other filters, VST etc..............
Replacement of trigger on port stator........
Adjusted oil rods to run much less oil mix

I also moved the racors outside into the outboard wells so I could see much more clearly the state of the fuel as well as safer and easier when you have to drain fuel.

We are now seeing the best economy so far. 1.9 mpg med- lightly loaded.

This Christmas trip we did 400 n.miles with no motor problems at all. Oil usage is down a lot as well.

Thanks to people here and in other forums we finally got on top of everything.........a great resource and assistance when you are on the other side of the world.

Interestingly the Yamaha dealer here runs 200hpdi's on his personal craft but as he turns them over fairly quickly he has never seen any of these issues here. My motors had 800 hrs on them and were ready for some attention.

Did Yamaha recommend that or did you do it on your own??
Not enough oil is usually a death sentence for a 2 stroke. :shock:

The oil rod is set to run oily? during the break-in. The original owner or dealer may not have adjusted it to the normal amount. Too much oil is better than too little but it does cause problems too.
 
Exactly as Grog says. I calculated i was running at aroud 25/1 mixture which apart from the expense, was causing headaches with the amount of trolling we do.
On the Striper forum I was alerted to the oil rod adjustment. I backed it off and then got my mechanic to check it and he backed it off some more.
I haven't done the calculations yet but it is using much less.
I raced Go Karts for several years and have seen many times what happens when you run a 2 stroke too lean.
 
It looks like you added a bait staiton of sorts and a leaning post on 265 Express -
They look nice - could you add some more pictures of these items?

After checking all my pics the one above shows it most clearly.
I started with the largest set of lure drawers I could buy, then got my father-in-law to make the timber case and top to my design. I then glassed it allover except for the top which is epoxied. I added the rod holders and cutting board and mounted it all on a 50lb gamechair pedestal and base that I had. This fits perfectly between the 2 inspection ports on the back deck.
The top is about 12 " above the gunnels which is a great working height but also spreads the rod tips when we run outrigger rods from them. esp. if we are running inner and outer lines.
If we are only running 4 or 5 lines then we can put the rigger rods in these holders and the flat lines in the forward gunnel holders which helps spread the lines a bit more.
When rigging baits you can watch your lines at the same time and if there is a sea running then you have something to steady yourself on.
Overall it has added many positives to the cockpit and no real negatives. Oh yeah it's great for putting a bowl of salsa and some corn chips on while sitting on the gunnels and having a beer watching the sun go down on paradise.

I may have some business down in Narwa, New South Wales this year. If so, I will have to make a detour and take a holiday and head towards Cains. When is the best time of year?
 
Juvenile blacks start around june and go thru' to end of September when we have our big tournament. So that's our busiest time gamefishing wise.
Would love to have you on board for some "fishing business".

Tim I took some pics of the bait/tackle station. The height and dimensions have worked out so well on both boats that I have used it on I wished I had spent more time on the finish of it. Hope this helps.

Hayden I meet on Tuesday to start looking at dates for 2009. We'll see how it works out. Would you be fishing outa Hinchenbrook?
 
Not usually , it depends on the baitschools, but there has been one or two years when they have been up that way.
Usually it is out of Townsville my home port.We would love to provide you with accomodation if that suits?
Hinchinbrook is a good option if the weather doesn't cooperate we can head up there as the bait is generally behind the lee of the reef.
