I need to disconnect my hydraulic steering by removing the tiller bolt to see if my swivel bracket is sticking (SeaStar hydraulics, 250hp 4-stroke Yamaha). Is it as simple as it looks: just remove the tiller bolt and put it back on once I've checked the swivel bracket?

Yes. That simple...but .. the tiller bolt is threaded into the tiller. usually up from the bottom with a nut on top. Take the nut off. Give it some WD40.
You might be albe to swing the seastar bracket up off the bolt without removing it
