Hello everyone. New to the site and a new to owning a Grady. We were searching for the perfect fishing boat to use in South Carolina and recently purchased what we believe will be the perfect boat for us. It is a 1983 243 tournament (profile says 223 but 243 was not a choice). It is however a project boat. The transom needs replaced. I am fairly handy and look forward to the project. Time is not an issue and I already have a boat that we use there to fish, so the plan is for a complete restoration. I want to completely remove the liner from the hull. I have scoured the internet and found the thread where the liner was removed from the '85 249 fisherman in 2 pieces but nothing else. Anyone ever done this?

Thanks

Re: removing the liner from the Hull

Most don't remove the liner, rather cut out a large section to allow access to area being repaired and glass it back in when done. Perhaps the best source for boat restoration info is the Classic Mako site. If your stringers are still good you can perform the transom replacement by removing the back "skin" and replacing the core. Not too intrusive. They are indeed nice boats worthy of restoration.

Re: removing the liner from the Hull

I have seen it done that way but the boat had been sitting out for a few years with access panels open and no usage whatsoever. My guess is buoyancy foam needs replaced and there is only one way to absolutely know about all the stringers. They took the liner out of the the fisherman in 2 pieces but id prefer to keep it in tact.
