An update to this post. I did the update as Garmin instructed and the date/time problem is fixed. Took about 5 minutes to load new software. At the end of the update process I had no GPS signal at all. I turned off the unit to remove the SD card and when I turned it back on all was well.

I noticed that my Garmin 4208 has the wrong date. This occured after updating to software v. 5.0 Not sure if that is what caused it or not. Apparently this is a recent, but widespread problem. The error is most apparent when you look at tide or celestial pages. No other pages are affected, as far as I can tell.
Garmin has since come out with a software update to v. 5.30 intended to fix the problem. I have not tried the update yet but others on THT report it works.
Below is the email instructions I received from Garmin:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
We are aware of the issue and there is a new software update to version 5.30.

On the box that is on your screen, you will need to select the drive letter that is associated with your SD card. Now press the next button below.
The program will now copy all the information it needs for the update to your SD card.
Now at the screen should change and say “The Update was successfully transferred to your card.” At this time click on the Finish button in the lower right corner of the screen. Now the update is applied to the SD card.
Now turn on your GPS unit before sticking the card into the unit. When the unit is on and you have gone past the I Agree screen, insert the card into the unit and the screen should change.
On this screen, highlight the button at the bottom of the screen that says Update Software and press the select button. The unit will now update the internal operating system that is programmed on the card.
The unit will eventually restart. Please DO NOT remove the card from the unit at this time. Wait until the unit gets back to the I Agree screen and you press select to get past that. After you get past the I Agree screen, you are free to take the card out of the unit and the software will be updated.
